Concert by the Voskresenije (Resurrection) Choir of St Petersburg – 3rd November 2015

The Choir will be performing in St Mary’s Church on Tuesday 3rd November at 7.30pm.
Tickets are priced £8 in advance and £10 on the night at the door.
Tickets are available from the Parish Office at St Mary’s Presbytery, Howard Street (in person or by phone on 01229 820210) between 10am and 2pm Monday to Friday.
Tickets are also available at the back of each of the four churches after Sunday masses.
The choir sang last year and gave a wonderful performance and are well worth listening to.   Do come along and be surprised at what you hear.
This is an ideal oppportunity for singers from all backgrounds, especially for aspiring young singers,  to come and hear an amazing range of wonderful female and male voices.  The male voices range from basso profundo (the deepest of bass voices) to counter tenor (the highest of male voices), a range that is rarely heard in  the same concert.
Refreshments will be available at the interval, along with CDs and a variety of Russian artefacts.
More information about the choir can be found on their website at
The programme for the event can be viewed here:  Programme
Copies will be provided on the night

Oh! I wish I’d had more notice. I’m an ex-parishioner of St.Mary’s now living in Macclesfield. I only got this one day before the concert, which I might have been able to attend otherwise. I knew Father Emmanuel Gribben back in 1970 just after his family fled the troubles in Belfast to live in tranquil Barrow. Even then, he appreciated good music and he’ll love this concert, as will all music lovers.

Hello William. Thanks for your comment. Fr Manny did enjoy the concert. This choir is very good.
They were performing nearer to you on Monday night, in Horwich near Bolton. If you take a look at their website ( you can see their full programme. On 20/11 they are at All Saints church in Old Glossop, Derbyshire, and on 22/11 they are at St Peter’s church in Little Budworth in Cheshire both of which are less than 30 miles away.
