Corporal Works of Mercy

The bereavement group met last week and will report in due course.

  1. Food, drink, shelter and clothing: the first meeting of this group will be on Thursday at 7pm in the Parish Centre.
  2. The sick and housebound: first meeting will be on Monday in the Parish Centre at 7pm
  3. Prisoners and refugees: details of this group will be published in due course.

These groups are open to everyone – please come along if you would like to get involved in this important work to serve those in need – in our parish and beyond. We are seeking to extend God’s love and mercy to others.

Concert by the Voskresenije (Resurrection) Choir of St Petersburg – 3rd November 2015

The Choir will be performing in St Mary’s Church on Tuesday 3rd November at 7.30pm.
Tickets are priced £8 in advance and £10 on the night at the door.
Tickets are available from the Parish Office at St Mary’s Presbytery, Howard Street (in person or by phone on 01229 820210) between 10am and 2pm Monday to Friday.
Tickets are also available at the back of each of the four churches after Sunday masses.
The choir sang last year and gave a wonderful performance and are well worth listening to.   Do come along and be surprised at what you hear.
This is an ideal oppportunity for singers from all backgrounds, especially for aspiring young singers,  to come and hear an amazing range of wonderful female and male voices.  The male voices range from basso profundo (the deepest of bass voices) to counter tenor (the highest of male voices), a range that is rarely heard in  the same concert.
Refreshments will be available at the interval, along with CDs and a variety of Russian artefacts.

EASTER SERVICE TIMES

PENITENTIAL SERVICE
There will be a penitential service on Wednesday (1st April) this week at 7.00pm at St Mary’s
with an opportunity for individual confession.
PLEASE NOTE – NO CONFESSIONS AT ANY CHURCH DURING THE EASTER TRIDUUM

CHRISM MASS
This special Mass will take place in the Cathedral at Lancaster
at 11.30am on Maundy Thursday (2nd April).
All are welcome to attend.

SERVICE FOR THE BEREAVED OF THE PARISH

On Monday, 22nd December at 7 pm in St Mary’s church, there will be an opportunity for all of our bereaved families to come together and pray for our loved ones who have died and to light a candle before the crib in their memory.

Youth Group Events

The Youth Group next meet this Wednesday at 7.00pm in the Parish Centre  (Nelson Street). All Year 6 and above are welcome.

Our Youth Club are organising a coffee afternoon/ Christmas Carols on Saturday 20th December from 2.30pm-4.30pm at the Parish Centre in Nelson Street for senior citizens and housebound of the Parish. Notices are now up in all the churches to list those who will be attending and also those who are able to provide lifts for people. It would help us enormously if we had numbers before the day to ensure we have enough tables/chairs etc available. Thank you for your continued support for our youth club.

 The Youth Group will next meet on Wednesday 10th September.

The youth group is open to all young people from year 6 up.

We meet at Nelson St Centre  from 7:00 – 8:45.

If you have any queries please call the Youth Leaders,

Steve or Karen on 475780.

If you have any spare board games, or
other equipment we could use,
the youth group would be more than happy to take them off your hands.
 A box will be placed at the back of St Columba church for collection
or you can always ring Steve and Karen
and we will collect. Thank you.
